Cardfight Vanguard BCS Regional Reflection - 10/25/24

Heyo this is Justin Baguio giving you my thoughts on the recent regional tournament I went to called BCS (Bushiroad Championship Series) for Cardfight Vanguard. This year the first location of said regional happened in Sacramento, California which was super convenient for me and my friends because it was so close and we didn't need to travel all the way to Southern California or other states. I'm going to be real with you and say I wish I could tell you that I did well for this tournament but unfortunately I didn’t. I have placed 191 out of 435 players. Not too bad but I wish I had placed at least Top 32 players.

Bushiroad recently implemented Top 32 for tournaments that hit a certain player attendance number and if you managed to get in you received a special Energy Marker for the game with a character from the anime and nice gold foiling on it. Then if you hit Top 8 you get a special mat that says Top 8 on it and your picture taken for the company to post on their social media. Finally if you reach Top 3 you get a special certificate of your respective placement and an invite to play in Worlds which is going to be held in Japan. 1st place gets a paid trip over there so you would imagine the amount of players there trying really hard to get first place. Who wouldn't pass up a free trip to Japan, am I right?

It wasn't the end of the world after my defeat because there is the official Bushiroad merch vendor I can pour my money into for neat items like the Cardfight Jersey I got. It's worth it because most items that you can buy from the booth are online exclusives and for each $20 of your purchase you receive a special promo pack that can only be obtained through the store. Each pack can contain a dud or a special card of a character from the anime and can be worth a lot of money. Besides that there was also the side event tournament that ran for Cardfight for those who didn't do too well in the main event or didn't want to participate in it. I did okay in that one but I lost in the semi finals. I did obtain a participation promo card but first place would have gotten a shiny version of it.

Overall I’m not too bitter about my whole tournament experience there. The only thing that was bitter was the current meta of said tournament where your chances of winning was significantly higher going first in the match instead of second. Sadly as you can guess, a lot of my games where I lost is because I went second and the deck matchups were not in my favor. But I had a lot of fun at the event because my teammates and a lot of my friends were in attendance so we had each other that day. Either we shared the same pain of not doing well or hyped up our friends who did well in it and some of my friends/teammates did go to Top 32. I didn't do well in this one but there's always the next one. I'll just take my losses at learning experiences to be better in future games.
