Pasadena CoreTCG Regionals - 03/30/2025

Evening guys, I’m just getting you all caught up on my matches down in Pasadena for CoreTCG Regionals! It was really a one sided event. I either lost 0-2 or won 2-0. Unfortunately, there was never a game 3. I piloted Lordknight with a small Levia package, which was a slight reach on my part! The main purpose of my deck was to climb my line using the dark animal engine. This essentially lets me draw 6-8 cards in one turn while gaining 1-3 memory back and still being able to climb my stack into a Lv.3 to Lv.6. Once I go into that, I land on Ruin Mode to control the whole tempo and win. I had a lot of choices on what deck to play with 2.5 being available.  The ban list was in effect also, which simultaneous release coming up, but this deck overall felt the most comfortable. A lot of situations and scenarios happened, but overall I went 4 Wins and 3 Losses. And then I dropped from the event since I had a long drive back home. But overall, I ranked 166 out of 394 people capped!

I’d like to shout out my teammates, Tyler and Richard, for play testing and playing in this event with me! My girl, Alyssa, for watching our son while I was gone for 2 days! And a special shoutout to Sparks Tradings Cards for sponsoring for this event. Thanks to you, this trip wouldn’t have been possible. I am so glad I got to represent the store for this in person Regional event.

Overall, I learned so much and had so much fun seeing a lot of familiar faces from last year’s in person event in Riverside CA. If you made it this far, I appreciate you reading my article. I also have another Regional event coming up on June 28th, which is run by PlayTCG. But I will be remote from home, so please stay tuned and thank you all so much for reading! Take care, Tamers. Here are more details on my match ups down below!

RD1 No show 2-0 W

- Practiced all day. I entered the 3v3 and was real nervous for a no show. This gave me time to walk away and get my jitters out.

RD2 Gallantmon 0-2 L

- I haven’t really play tested against this deck a lot, but those are misplays on my part. I’m not making excuses! G1 was a back and forth battle, but I hit crimson blaze in security that cleared my board and stopped me from going for lethal. G2 was my fault again. I went and grabbed a smaller body to go for lethal and kamikaze myself into his GallantX which can break the 20K threshold easy! That costed me 1-1 we go next.

RD3 Royal Knights 0-2 L

- This match up wasn’t as bad as everyone thinks but medieval did a lot of work. G1 lord knight package does nothing against RKs. Medieval controlled the whole way, I couldn’t find Levia to clear. G2 OmniX is too good over 20 in trash and he on plays crimson mode. Omni X allows crimson to attack without suspending crimson mode ace when attack trash 2 swing for game. Too good!! Now, 1-2 salty run back but not being discouraged this guy also top 16’d the event great guy tooRD4 Xros Hearts 2-0 W.

- Going into Round 4, my mental was out of whack from coming out of back to back losses. But after that free win Round 1, sheesh! So, it’s win out or we’re out of the top cut. I mean, at this point, winning out is the main priority! G1 Psychmon is honestly MVP against decks like this that relies on reducing play cost with their tamers and having a flood gate that shuts all that off. Having to play a piece for 5 memory just hurts and gives me time to set up. G2 was a little slower. He found his line really quick while I was still finding mine. But once I did, Lordknight X did Lordknight things. Alliance, Collision, and piercing are really good GGs. We take this match 2-2.

RD5 Virus Imperial 0-2 L

- Man, I play tested against Tyler (my teammate who piloted Virus also). And to be fair, I didn’t do anything wrong. There were no misplays, but overall, something about the Lordknight package just isn’t viable against recursion. And since that deck plays so much by effect, pure Levia would do so much work! G1 he turns 2 Fighter Mode me and I had no answer to that, to be honest, no 5’s at all. G2 was a pain. I forgot a step and it cost me.  Honestly, I could’ve taken it to G3, but no dice! Officially, X3 is a no top cut placement, but my main goal is to win out, or, until my teammates do bad. And once they drop, we go home. It was a great and a fun run.

RD6 UlforceVeedramon 2-0 W

- I was around table 76 here and I thought I was gonna run into something meta since I ran the gauntlet, but nah.  Ulforce itself. So glad I got to see variety. I mean, I’m deep in the tables. This time last year in Riverside, I did run into a Suka/Etemon deck, but man, to see this? I mean, 2 sets from it, it’ll have more support. That’s exciting! G1 I keep on saying LKM doesn’t do anything, but against stack decks, like Ulforce Dedigivolve, and not being able to evoke, hurts them so much since they essentially go for game or leave you back against the wall. But there’s really no self protection to the deck…yet. I took his boos digi down and controlled the whole way. G2 was the same thing, but Levia is crazy against tamer reliant decks! We take this 2-0 back in the win column.

RD7 Virus Imperial 2-0 W

- I ran into another Virus match up of all things and missed on Galaxy and Sakuya. But RD7, this guy was honestly all vibes. I even added him on discord! G1 we were kind of in the same boat missing pieces, but he ended on a dragon mode with nothing in raising. So, I took advantage of that and climbed my line into LkmX Dedigi and ended on ruin mode, which shuts down that whole deck. G2 was the same thing as G1. We were trying to find piece, but LeviaX 3 checked while popping a tamer and his Digimon is too.
