Versus Games Online Digimon Ultimate Cup - 07/19/2025

Good evening! I’m writing about the Ultimate Cup I played in on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the Versus Games Center event. I used a purple-based Dex deck and finished with a 4-2 record, placing 10th out of 64 in my pod.
This was good enough to qualify for Top Cut prizes! With the new season underway, the tournament had only six rounds instead of the nine from last season. They split players into four pods of 64, labeled A to D, and used the Bandai+ app to manage everything. I want to give a shoutout to my teammates Tyler, Richard, and Juan for helping me test, and I’m proud to represent Sparks Trading Cards. I hope you enjoy reading about my journey to the Top 16! Thanks for reading, as always.

Round 1: No Call, No Show - Win
I don’t love winning Round 1 this way, but 7 a.m. is early for some folks! I was hoping to play to shake off the nerves, but the extra time to wake up was nice too.

Round 2: Sakuya - 2-0 Win
I played one game against this opponent, but he gave me the win because it was his dad’s birthday. Talk about an easy 2-0! With four more rounds to go, I could relax with my parents and son afterward.

Round 3: Megidra - 2-1 Win
This matchup was tough. In Game 1, my opponent did Megidra things, looping and hitting me with two rush Guils to win. In Game 2, I took control early, chipped away, and used Dorugrey to secure the win. In Game 3, he drew poorly, and I capitalized with my setup, pushing for the win. Good games! 3-0 record now.

Round 4: Royal Knight - 1-2 Loss
Game 1 was a grind, but my opponent forgot Dorugora’s deletion protection. I cleared all four security cards with a board of two Loogas, Tyranny, and Dorugora. I evolved into Dex, deleted my own Digimon to unsuspend, and swung for the win. Game 2 was back-and-forth, but he won with Omni and Jesmon’s strong combo. Game 3 was all Medieval, and he took it. He was a cool guy, though, and got second place overall. We added each other afterward. Oh, he’s Canadian, by the way. 3-1 now.

Round 5: Megidra - 0-2 Loss
This round, I faced arguably the best purple player in North America, Tesero. This matchup feels like a coin flip. In Game 1, I drew poorly and couldn’t get anything going. In Game 2, I made a mistake, forgetting my tamer didn’t give me a blocker, and a few other misplays cost me. Still, I was 3-2 and in the running for Top 16!

Round 6: Ex9 Machinedramon - 2-0 Win
The final round was intense. We were both 3-2, so a loss would knock one of us out of Top 16. I had to win! In Game 1, he set up too slowly, and I controlled the board, hitting hard with De-Digi while his face-down Digivolution cards hurt him. Game 2 was similar. He didn’t draw his analogs, so I poked and rolled slowly to the win. I did it! 4-2 and Top 16 secured.

Thanks for reading about my tournament!
